The Undergraduate Certificate in Small Business aims to prepare graduates to commence a practitioner pathway with the ability to identify, analyse, and apply on contemporary business concepts and practices in real business contexts through the combination of theory and practice. It does this with an understanding that jobs of the future will be impacted by rapid technological and social change.
Post completion of this qualification, graduates will be able to apply interdisciplinary knowledge and skills in order to:
<ul><li>Commence a practitioner pathway to become a team leader and/or small business owner in business environments</li><li>Facilitate articulation into the Applied Business diploma and associate degree</li></ul>
The interdisciplinary nature of this qualification draws upon established disciplinary fields such as finance, marketing, and management and facilitates business and wellbeing enhancement through the inclusion of The Wellbeing Toolkit and Lean Thinking.
A key to the distinctiveness of the Undergraduate Certificate in Small Business is its adoption of applied, blended, and online styles of learning. The course requires students to develop knowledge and skills within an authentic learning approach. In this subject you will learn project management concepts, tools and processes used in the formulation, delivery and management of construction projects. Your learning will focus on practical examples and incorporate analysis of construction project case studies. You will develop skills in construction project management processes, project troubleshooting, and formulation of a detailed project plan. This subject will include tutorials and workshops with guest speakers from industry and provide you with the opportunity to consolidate your learnings from other subjects. Business and Corporate Law

The increasing use of the Internet and other digital media by both business and consumers is having a significant effect on business globally. For consumers, information and communication technologies (ICT) provide more information, convenience, and a wider range of, and access to, product choices. For businesses, ICT provides new channels to market their products, new ways to build and establish value-creating relationships with their customers, as well as opportunities to expand into new markets. However, due to the rapid evolution of digital technologies, the businesses are increasingly confronted with the need to participate and manage their marketing mix in a real-time, ever-changing digital environment. Hence it is imperative for businesses to be able to take advantages of the digital technologies as a means to sharpen their competitive advantages and marketing strategies. The focus of this subject is on developing students’ knowledge of digital and direct marketing as a strategic element of the marketing mix. It will develop students’ knowledge of key concepts, principles, and models needed to strategically manage digital and direct marketing in both B2B and B2C marketing contexts. The subject will develop students’ knowledge of when and how to use the various methods of digital and direct marketing at different stages of marketing strategy. The subject will develop students’ knowledge and ability to creatively plan, effectively implement, and critically evaluate the performance of different digital and direct marketing strategies.

This subject explores the nature of contracts in business to business relationships. You will examine the legalities surrounding contracts, including different types of contracts and important clauses. You will also learn the processes involved with contract administration, including contract variations, performance management and dealing with contract disputes, both from a contractor and client perspective. Through a case study analysis, you will investigate and resolve issues related to supplier performance and dispute resolution. As a major assessment task, you will develop an organisational contract management artefact to assist others with managing contracts.

This subject will introduce you to the major concepts and analytical tools used in the theory and practice of accountability and financial management in a business organisation. It is designed to provide you with an understanding of: • the basis of finance concepts including interest rate and the time value of money; the application of time value of money in evaluating different financialassets such as bonds and equity;• accountability and the application of financial management concepts in identifying and assessing environmental, social and governance risks; and• the scope and nature of the finance function and its role within management. This subject also develops your practical skills in the identification and analysis of financial problems and prepares you to provide advice to users on their decision making and the risks involved, including ESG risks. Specifically, this unit explains the relationship between risk and returns while considering the role and objectives of accountability, financial management and capital budgeting. It introduces students to the role and function of the capital markets, the various sources of finance and the accountability of the actors involved in the process.
