An introduction to important laws related to consumers, contracts, property, business crime, and more. You’ll explore the rules and institutions that govern business and commerce in Australia. Get to know the legal framework within which businesses operate.

This subject was previously known as BLW22.Studying this subject will introduce you to the Australian Taxation System and get you to critically consider the various aspects of the taxation legislation with a focus on Income Tax, Fringe Benefit Tax, Goods and Services Tax and Capital Gains Tax as well as a detailed investigation into the taxing of various tax entities used in Australia. You will be exposed to considering the global aspect of taxation and how foreign companies and individuals are treated for tax purposes in Australia. Being a tax professional is a privileged position but it comes with both social and ethical responsibilities and in this unit we will identify these as well as taking a detailed looked at the various bodies associated with the administration and review of the Australian Taxation System such as the Australia Taxation Office, Inspector General of Taxation and the Tax Practitioners Board. Markets and Legal Frameworks

In this unit, students will be introduced to the sources of employment law in Australia. This unit explores employment law&#39;s impact on businesses, emphasizing legal concepts, cultural/ethical issues, and effective communication. Activities include researching, analysing, and discussing employment law topics, promoting critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration. These align with United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) and SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure). Students gain knowledge/skills for inclusive employment and labour rights, and case law relating to sustainable industrialisation. The subject aims to provide students with a solid foundation of fundamental principles of company law. Topics include: the context of company law, the role and functions of the Australian Securities and Investments Commission, types of business structures, incorporation and registration, the doctrine of legal personality, corporate fund raising and share capital, legal rules relating to shares and dividends, the internal management of companies, powers and duties of various stakeholders, rights and remedies of members, company insolvency and deregistration.
