In this subject, you will first be introduced to concepts fundamental to the understanding of Human Physiology such as the organisation of the human body, homeostasis, basic cell structure and function, body fluids and the movement of molecules within body fluid compartments. The basics of nervous system and endocrine system function in the context of physiological regulation and homeostasis will then be explored. This information will provide the foundation for the study of major organ systems of the body including the muscular, digestive, cardiovascular, immune, respiratory, renal, and reproductive systems. This subject will also include content on metabolism of nutrients and acid-base homeostasis.

Map the complex architecture of the human body and learn how it’s organised and structured. Navigate the journey of the smallest cell to the largest organ. Observe how the body performs and adapts, responding to stress and disease to maintain life.

In this subject, these principles and strategies for future cyber security are explored. Essentials of Chemistry is an introductory subject for students with minimal background or no previous study in chemistry. The subject introduces chemistry topics with a real-world focus to prepare students for further studies in chemistry and related fields of science. The subject will introduce and reinforce chemistry concepts, knowledge and skills in chemistry to enable students to apply chemical principles and practice during their studies and in future employment.Module 1: General Chemistry covers matter, atoms, the periodic table, chemical bonding, naming compounds, molecular geometry, atomic masses, the mole and chemical reactions.Module 2: Organic Chemistry covers alkanes, alkenes, alkynes and arenes, functional groups and reaction types. Module 3: Physical Chemistry covers gases, energy in chemistry, chemical kinetics, equilibria, acids and bases.

Essentials of Chemistry

In this subject you will study the major food sources, functions and metabolism of macro-nutrients (protein, fat and carbohydrate), alcohol, and micro-nutrients (vitamins and minerals) and be aware of the consequences of over and under-nutrition. Principles of energy balance (energy intake and energy expenditure), basic techniques for assessment of nutrient adequacy of individual diets and simple techniques for assessing body composition in adults will be explored. You will also be introduced to the Australian Dietary Guidelines and Nutrient Reference Values, and the use of food guides in assessing the diets of populations. You will also be introduced to the Nutrition Society of Australia Competencies. This subject includes professional learning, practical experiences or portfolio activities which contribute to the completion of the Career Ready AdvantageTM award.

Navigate the makeup of the human body. Uncover diet myths, and select the most nourishing foods using dietary guidelines. Calculate muscle to fat ratio to determine health. Weigh up the balance between what people eat and the energy they burn.

In this subject you are introduced to the steps involved in designing and creating a software solution to simple real-life problems. To enable students to design a program, the subject introduces the way to break down the problems into smaller parts and analyse them methodically by using simple techniques such as drawing flowcharts. You will be introduced to the Python programming language as a means of creating executable program code to implement working software solutions.

You will explore various career options, set personal career objectives, and conduct thorough career research to understand the opportunities and challenges in your fields of interest. Additionally, you will learn to articulate your professional capabilities using industry-standard language, preparing you to present yourself effectively to prospective employers.

Career Options and Professional Identity

How do individuals and groups participate in politics, and how can we as individuals position ourselves in relation to processes of change at the community, state and international levels? What models of deliberation and participation are privileged in grassroots, state and global politics? This subject uses a series of case studies to explore these issues, with a particular view to making sense of the relationship between grassroots and elite politics in processes of social and political change. The subject will focus on civil society organizations and social movements to examine how grassroots activists have attempted to enact change. Case studies will include activism for women&#39;s rights, the rights of Indigenous peoples, migrants and refugees, national self-determination, environmental and climate justice, as well as pro-democracy movements in authoritarian states, amongst others.

People, Power and States

This subject explores the international politics of the Indo-Pacific, focusing particularly on questions of international security and strategy. The aims of this course are as follows:To introduce you to the international politics of security and strategy in the Indo-Pacific through the lens of contested strategic spaces and geographic sub-regions;To integrate an understanding of how the region’s security and strategic arrangements relate to the wider dynamics of international politics;To engage with and utilise International Relations theories and concepts, in the context of Indo-Pacific security;To provide the analytic and intellectual foundation for further academic research on the region and/or work which requires a sound understanding of the security and strategic dynamics of the contemporary Indo-Pacific;To develop further students’ critical and analytical skills through the engagement with a diverse and challenging theoretical and empirical literature, interrogated through the online content material, assessments, and class participation.

International Security in the Indo-Pacific Region

In this subject, you will focus on the scope, aims and techniques of sport and exercise psychology. The scope of sport psychology includes: its importance in changing community health behaviours; working with special groups such as disabled persons, elite athletes, and non-sport performers (for example, dancers), older populations, and individuals undergoing rehabilitation. The aim of sport psychology should not be limited to winning, but should be oriented to achieving personal goals, whether they be improving performance, fitness and health, or simply increasing enjoyment. Techniques include the use of cognitive-behavioural techniques to increase motivation, reduce competition anxiety, improve concentration, enhance teamwork, and manage stressors outside of the sport area (for example, work, study, family).This subject is designed for third-year students. To maximise your chances of success in achieving the intended learning outcomes, it is recommended that you complete this subject in your third- year.

Sport and Exercise Psychology

In this subject, you will undertake a work-based placement, either in a relevant external organisation or agency, or internally at La Trobe University. This allows you to engage in approved tasks designed to achieve specific learning objectives relating to continuous and life-long learning in a service-teaching mode. The aim of the subject is to provide you with an opportunity to interpret and apply theoretical concepts, in a supervised setting, to expand relevant skills, knowledge and attitudes. Your placement could include projects and activities in a wide range of programs and services, including mental health, disability, multicultural health, aged care, LGBTIQ health, Indigenous health, homelessness and housing, and refugee health. The seminar series accompanying the placement will orient you to professional and practical considerations of a work environment and allow you to gain a broad perspective about potential employment possibilities.
