This is a program for students who are new to their chosen major area of study. It is designed to allow students to develop and apply advanced skills and understandings of contemporary practices in their field while developing and extending their critical, analytical, and creative knowledges and experiences through interdisciplinary engagement with allied fields of media, creative arts, and social inquiry. Students will develop specialist practical and professional skills orientated towards professional or creative engagement in fields of their chosen major. They will also gain analytical, collaborative, and problem-solving skills through the critically informed practice of designing, planning, and producing a major project in the form of a creative production, portfolio work, report, or thesis. The course also provides opportunities for students to take internships in their respective fields and to demonstrate qualification for possible entry into Curtin University’s PhD program.The Fine Art degree draws upon the diverse and complex traditions of fine art calling for a high degree of self-discipline, capacity for self-criticism and dedication to the demanding profession of being an artist. The Fine Art degree aims to produce accomplished and knowledgeable graduates able to contribute to the artistic, aesthetic and social needs of contemporary society. Students will undertake a major project in their second year of study. They will also have an opportunity to practice their skills and develop their portfolio through internship with a professional organization. Students with outstanding results will have an option to further strengthen their critical capacity in preparation for possible PhD study.

Graduate Fine Art Concepts and Contexts

This subject is designed to engage you in the ideas of contemporary art through practical application of technical skills and conceptual development. In this subject you will be encouraged to align conceptual development with the acquisition of traditional and contemporary skills across a range of visual art methods. Graduate Fine Art Studio Extension

This subject is designed to introduce you to research methods relevant to contemporary art. You will develop skills in writing proposals, initiating your own studio practice and presenting a body of artworks. This subject prepares Early Childhood Educators to design and implement authentic arts education programs in Early Childhood Education and Care settings. Play-based learning principles will be applied to this design process and experiences will be developmentally appropriate.
