Gain an overview of human development from conception to early adolescence. Interpret aspects of development related to age—exploring how the interactions between the child, caregivers, home and school impact children's development.

Gain exposure to technology enhanced resources used to support teaching. Evaluate the complexities of the digital world and its impact on education. Sample a range of teaching and learning resources relevant to your development as an educator.

A final subject to demonstrate your attainment of skills, knowledge and attributes as an early childhood or primary professional. Via a 10-week placement, demonstrate you can plan for and teach children with diverse backgrounds, abilities and needs.

Professional Experience 4: The Internship

Understand the value of dance, drama and music in society alongside children’s developmental growth. Inquiry-based and praxis-led learning will encourage your creative thinking, self-expression, meaning-making and ability to convey ideas. 

Lay the foundations for meaningful interpretation and implementation of curriculum in the context of science and humantities. Seek answers to local and global social and environmental issues using various information and communication technologies.

Consider history, philosophy, government policies, and inclusive education theory to form confidence in creating teaching and assessment strategies for learners from diverse cognitive and cultural backgrounds. 

Learning Theories, Diversity and Differentiation

Explore teaching and learning practices to support and challenge a diverse student cohort. Focus on curriculum planning, teaching strategies, evaluation, resources, and having a positive impact on student learning.

Understand how to maintain a positive, safe and supportive learning environment. Focus on your own proactive behaviour in being able to meet individual student needs and appreciate how to engage carers and the wider community.

Examine literacy and numeracy as evolving, cultural and historical concepts rather than a finite set of skills. Learn how to prepare lesson plans that address the literacy and numeracy demands within your chosen teaching area major.
