This subject provides a broad appreciation of the nature and importance of logistics activities and an understanding of the key concepts and tools used by logistics managers. The subject enables an examination of the key components of an integrated logistics system, such as inventory management and transport, whilst viewing the system holistically. Central to an integrated logistics system is the customer; by studying the trade-offs between customer service and costs in this subject, you will be able to contribute positively to the decision-making in the logistics management activities in any company.

This subject introduces students to the best management practices for dealing with the ship-shore interface and will provide the skills and knowledge necessary to assume an operations management role. The dissertation builds on a number of disciplines studied in the program and on the awareness of issues that the maritime and logistics industries face globally, in part due to the intense competition and increasing customer demands. Successful completion of this subject requires prior knowledge of research methods.A dissertation is equivalent to three subjects of coursework. The subject will develop students’ knowledge and skills in applying informatics to enhance data sharing and decision support for stakeholders to increase the efficiency, safety, environmental sustainability, and resilience of maritime logistics chains. The subject will covers topics related to the ecosystem of maritime logistics chains; the concept of informatics; digitalisation in maritime logistics chains; application of informatics in shipping, ports/terminals, landside transport, and warehousing and distribution; maritime and logistics informatics and decision-making; data management.
