This subject concentrates on contemporary travel writing in the short story/feature/essay form and has instructional value for both creative and professional writing students.

Writing for Media introduces you to the practice of writing for various media platforms and audiences. The focus of the subject will be to teach you how to write a range of media texts and to develop skills in editing and honing your work. The key learning outcomes of writing concisely, effective revision, distilling information and sound knowledge of grammar and style are transferable across a range of vocations. You will develop a folio of written work. This is a level 1 subject.  This subject includes live sessions with the expectation of student attendance and participation in either online or face-to-face tutorials weekly. These classes may fall in business hours.

The Emerging Journalist introduces you to the shifting roles and responsibilities of journalists and journalism within liberal democratic societies. You will appreciate the contemporary media landscape and the role of journalists and media organisations in relation to social, economic, political and cultural power structures. Topics and issues covered include best practices in news and feature writing, media ethics, and working with sources. Assessment tasks are designed to give you an opportunity to start building a portfolio of journalistic work. This is a level 1 subject. It includes live sessions with the expectation of student attendance and participation. These classes may fall in business hours.

Broadcast Journalism is designed to extend and develop the skills introduced in second year Journalism subjects with a focus on researching, writing and producing news and current affairs stories for television and online. ThisÂ unit also includes advanced techniques in media presentation, production, problem solving and the student&#39;s critical evaluation of their own performance.

You will also examine ethical issues faced by journalists and consider such issues in connection to your own stories using the framework of the Media Entertainment and Arts Alliance (MEAA) Code of Ethics. These issues will be analysed and discussed in essay form.
