Game Design Introduction

In this subject, you will learn about the procedural nature of cyber security. You will analyse the effectiveness of threat and vulnerability mitigation through use of contemporary cyber security frameworks. You will be explore mitigation strategies, operational controls, and countermeasures needed to address various threats and vulnerabilities from both technical and organisational perspectives. Upon completion of this subject, you will be able to apply your cyber security knowledge to communicate, support, and design improvements to business and personal cyber security posture (i.e. cyber security strength and readiness).

Defensive Cyber Security Procedures

This subject introduces you to industry approaches taken in threat intelligence and assessment. The subject will be task-focused and will allow you to explore the threat intelligence process with a focus on three key areas: understanding industry threat landscapes; legal and ethical considerations for penetration testing; and understanding and assessing penetration testing processes within industry contexts.

Cyber Threat Intelligence

In this subject, you will learn the core principles of sensors and sensor networks, investigating how these technologies are generating revolutionary scale change across many industries. You will acquire practical skills via simulation based learning for sensor deployment, sensor technology solutions aligned with industrial objectives, and sensor networks capable of transferring real-time data to external systems. Students will obtain the knowledge and skills needed to fulfil industry standards and solve authentic challenges in sensor network design through case studies and simulation based activities. You will develop self-awareness, initiative, and judgement while developing know how of Industry 4.0 and its potential to enhance decision making with near real time data, and drive efficiencies and innovation in industries at any scale.

Sensors and Sensor Networks

In this subject, you will be introduced to mathematical and statistical methods for analysing scientific, business or technical data to inform and support decision-making. You will explore why data is needed and how it is used to make decisions, including how data are collected, analysed, interpreted and presented, and you will learn and apply a suite of common statistical and mathematical methods to generate evidence for decision-making.You will also be introduced to data management software and learn how to represent and communicate mathematical and statistical information effectively. Through data sets relevant to your discipline, you will learn how to problem solve, generate evidence, and present solutions using data handling and statistical approaches.

Information systems is no longer an option for businesses, it has become a necessity. Organisations are making significant investments in information systems to create business value. Information systems within organisations have evolved at a rapid rate, and this subject provides students with an understanding of both the foundations of business information systems and recent developments of information systems for business. The development of business information systems is generally a collaborative project both within a department and between other departments, and this subject will discuss the challenges of working collaboratively within an organisation and develop these skills through teamwork activities and assessments. Lastly, while information systems provide a wealth of opportunity, the subject will also alert students to the risks and limitations of information systems for businesses and develop their critical thinking by demonstrating the ethical dimensions of information systems for business.

Information Systems for Business

AI and Big Data are popular buzzwords that are generating significant interest by businesses in today’s digital world. Business managers are increasingly investing in these technologies with the hope that automation and access to more data can lead to cost savings, create new business opportunities and sustain competitive advantages. This subject seeks to demystify AI and Big Data for business managers and to engender critical reflection on the unintended consequences and ethical issues for businesses associated with the introduction of these emerging technologies.

Artificial Intelligence and Big Data Applications for Business

Games (whether they be video games, console games, computer games, mobile games, or web games) differ from other media as they elevate the viewer to the level of a participant. Games are an ever-growing cultural phenomenon which has increasing relevance to people&#39;s day-to-day lives and well as significant economic importance.In this subject, students will be exposed to the basics of game development technology and game design, via an intensive process learning practical skills for developing games and the application of these in the development of their own small game.While games are typically &quot;fun&quot;, they are also increasingly being developed for non-entertainment uses, through so-called serious gaming and by the use of gamification. Supplementing the practical component, this subject will introduce such games as they are used to make social statements and to drive social change; for education and training; for rehabilitation and health; for research; and for art&#39;s sake alone. This subject will also examine controversial game content, the effects of game playing, and various ethical concerns.This subject will feature guest speakers who will provide unique personal insights into the workings of the games industry and advice on how to best prepare for employment within it. Completing this subject will provide you with the opportunity to obtain the Unity Certified User: Programmer professional industry certification via completion of a certification exam.

Games Fundamentals

This subject introduces fundamental programming skills, developing students&#39; ability to think algorithmically to solve problems and to express their ideas in well-constructed Python code. Beginning with the fundamental characteristics of computers and how they represent information, the subject develops the concepts of data types, variables, expressions (calculations), statements (actions), and text-based input and output. Building on these low-level constructs, the subject examines ways to manage program complexity with control structures (for making decisions), functions and their parameters, built-in and custom data structures, and higher-level organisational mechanisms such as modules. Students will have the opportunity to explore advanced topics such as error handling and recursion.

Programming Fundamentals

This subject introduces the concepts of software design and development in the context of computer programming. You will learn how to design, manage, and evaluate projects that solve real-world applied technology problems through industry best practice and design methodologies. You will learn to design and build programs for applied technology using the Python language and how to apply programming practices in industry using concepts such as computational efficiency, coding best practice, interfacing, and documenting.

Programming Principles

In this subject you will scan the horizon of emerging and disruptive technologies and be introduced to those most likely to become mainstream in the future such as Blockchain, Artificial Intelligence and Virtual and Augmented Reality. You will learn about the functionality of new technologies, their operations, capability and how they are applied in industry, both locally and globally. The impact of new technology and its ethical implications will be explored through industry case studies. You will learn ways of developing strategies for implementing new technologies in the context of your discipline through a technology functionality investigation, developing an implementation plan, and participating in a peer review process. In conjunction with discipline theory, this subject builds on concepts of learning through practice by introducing you to:<ul><li>discipline-based skills and knowledge in dynamic practice situations. This will include authentic and purposeful, industry-related experiences  </li><li>concepts of managing effective relationships and communicating with others  </li><li>the development and use of adaptive leadership skills and how these skills relate to innovative and entrepreneurial practice </li><li>the nature of responsible, accountable and reflective workplace skills, and creative and critical thinking relevant to para-professional practice. </li></ul>You will exercise self-awareness, initiative and judgement to manage yourself and professional relationships effectively. The application of tacit knowledge and capabilities will be reflected in a Practice Manual 1.
