Healthcare delivery is constantly evolving in the face of population growth, our increasingly diverse and ageing communities, changing approaches to delivering healthcare and availability of new technology.Health professionals need to be more collaborative, team-focused and adaptable than ever before. To meet these challenges, the University of Tasmania, in partnership with major health providers, is launching a more flexible and agile approach to providing educational offerings for health professionals throughout their careers.The Graduate Certificate in Advanced Practice is the first step on that journey, and is designed to provide you with the knowledge and skills to expand your contribution to healthcare and meet your continuing professional development requirements with a flexible online approach. The program has been developed with health industry partners and features a strong inter-disciplinary approach, drawing on content from a broad range of disciplines across the University of Tasmania, with an emphasis on providing you with the flexibility to choose content that best progresses your career ambitions.You will build a strong foundation in leadership skills and critical thinking, helping you to analyse and resolve the complex problems that you face in the health system. You can then choose from a curated selection of subjects expanding your knowledge in fields including epidemiology, public health, biostatistics, health service innovation, health informatics and digital health.The Graduate Certificate in Advanced Practice has been co-designed with major health providers for the health workforce, with content developed to meet the needs of health professionals from all disciplines. The program is open to anyone with a health-related bachelor degree, or a bachelor degree in an unrelated area with at least two years&#39; experience in the health workforce.The Graduate Certificate in Advanced Practice articulates directly into the Graduate Diploma of Advanced Practice (Specialisation) and the Master of Advanced Practice (Specialisation), providing you with a seamless pathway to progress your career in a meaningful new direction and advance practice in your health organisation.Advanced Practice masterclass seriesExperience first-hand what our expert lecturers can offer you with our <a href="https://www.utas.edu.au/study/postgraduate/advanced-practice#masterclass" target="_blank">free, online masterclass series</a>.Webinar topics cover the breadth of our Advance Practice specialisations, as well as the core topics of leadership, and critical thinking. Your knowledge and skills will be further developed through examining practical issues related to assessing learners as well as the provision of feedback to enhance performance. Your teaching knowledge and skills will be evidenced through lesson planning, the development of a teaching portfolio, and reflection on practice.

Applied Learning and Teaching for Health Professionals

During this subject, students will acquire knowledge, critically review and communicate key information in relation to theoretical models and frameworks of quality evaluation.

Evaluating Quality

You will acquire knowledge about workplace culture and its impact on quality service delivery, factors that facilitate or act as barriers to the development of a quality culture in the workplace and apply this knowledge to critically analyse workplace scenarios.

The Quality Culture and Implementing Quality Improvements

Students completing this subject will have acquired knowledge about monitoring and measuring performance within a quality framework and apply knowledge of monitoring and measuring the quality of performance in complex simulated work environments.

Monitoring and Measuring Performance

This subject explores the nature of change within the broader environmental and organisational context. It will include exploration of current theories and research around issues relating to leading and managing as well as diffusion of innovation. Strategies for successful implementation of change, including the identification of barriers to implementation are developed, particularly as they apply to health and human service settings. Participants are encouraged to examine the role of leadership in change management as well as exploring and analysing the intersection between the drivers of change, change readiness and service innovation diffusion.

Leading and Managing Change in Health and Human Services

This subject will introduce the principles of economic thinking, including core economic concepts and tools that assist healthcare policy decision-making. There will be a focus on exploring the evidence base, context and economic decisions that occur within the process of public policy development. Students will critically examine the complexities of the economic environment and influence of advocacy coalitions using contemporary policy case studies in the healthcare sector.

Health Policy, Economics and Advocacy

The aim of this subject is to introduce the concept of positive psychology into leadership practices and principles. The subject has been designed to encourage you to critically explore the theories, constructs and models within positive psychology, and how they can be integrated into the workplace environment. As a relatively new area of academic inquiry and application, but one with a significant evidence base, this field is concerned with what works in creating a flourishing work environment rather than focusing on organizational deficits. On completing this subject, you will be expected to be familiar with positive psychology concepts, be able to discuss these concepts critically, and be able to review the potential of positive psychology principles in terms of your own working relationships and leadership practice. Having said that, this subject will not be teaching you how to become positive psychology practitioners per se, but you will have the potential to draw on a positive psychology perspective in your approach to your work either as an employee or a leader in the health and human service context.

Positive Psychology in Leadership

This subject aims to provide a broad understanding of the key leadership functions of organisational and clinical governance, and risk management within health and human services. These concepts have grown in significance across health and human services - driven by the need for assurance from the public, providers, funders, accreditation agencies, and governments, that services are delivered safely and that they meet organisational and quality standards.This subject begins with an introduction and overview of the concepts of governance, risk and risk management, including relevant conceptual and theoretical frameworks. You will explore the practical implementation of governance and risk management frameworks and strategies with an emphasis on real-world application of best practice, empowering you to lead initiatives and to drive positive change in your workplace by fostering a culture of safety, accountability and continuous improvement. You will be challenged to reflect on your own professional practice and leadership capacity, as you gain insights into how effective governance and leadership approaches can shape the rapidly evolving health and human service landscape.

Risk Management and Governance

This subject explores the interconnected domains of health policy, law, ethics, strategy and financial management, equipping you with the knowledge and skills to navigate complex health and human service environments. You will evaluate policy initiatives, critically analyse legal and ethical challenges, and apply strategic and financial principles to lead organisational, community and system improvements. Emphasising a work-integrated-learning approach, the subject will guide you to apply theoretical frameworks and empirical evidence to real-world challenges within your workplaces, building your capability to make informed decisions and to lead with impact in a rapidly evolving context. Through a deepening of your reflective leadership practice and collaborative problem-solving skills, you will also develop strategies to address professional, organisational, and community issues, fostering resilient systems and a commitment to ongoing leadership development.

Management in Health and Human Services

This subject is designed to develop your knowledge and skills in relation to your leadership role for clinical supervision in health and human service professions. This subject emphasizes the continuous process of reflecting on and improving personal supervisory practices, ensuring that students are equipped to lead and innovate in their professional environments. Students in this subject will explore current literature and research on clinical supervision theory and practice, and critically review models of supervision across professions and health and human service contexts. Students will review their own clinical supervision experiences and practice within the existing models and will analyse, reflect and plan improvements in personal supervisory practice. This subject is suitable for health professionals working in a range of health and human service settings who are responsible, or who wish to develop skills, for supervising students and junior health practitioners.
