Diploma of ICT Professional Practice

This course introduces the full spectrum of game art and design, from visual design fundamentals to game design conception and introductory game development processes. You will be exposed to the technical tools and 3D construction techniques that are integral to the field. This diploma develops the necessary technical skills and exposure to game development processes to begin working in game development, or provide a clear pathway for further study. Course duration: 1 year full time, 2 years part time, 6 months accelerated

This subject introduces students to the principles of spatial and temporal design with a focus on the fundamentals of animation. Through a series of technical and conceptual activities, students will have the opportunity to experiment with animation techniques and discern its role as a medium for communication.

Learn techniques behind your favourite animations. Become a puppeteer to the moving image as you craft an animated sequence – learning how storyboarding, planning and resourcing comes into play. Build skills to communicate a story.

This subject introduces fundamental games art and design production concepts and processes, providing students with basic knowledge in concept art, game engine evaluation, game play, storyboarding,and basic workflow standards. Students are also introduced to games as a wider cultural and philosophical phenomena.

Introduction to Games Art and Design

This subject introduces the fundamentals of computer graphics, animation, audio and video; essential for digital content development for computer and video games, and eXtended Reality [XR] (Virtual [VR], Augmented [AR], Mixed [MR]) applications. Tools and techniques used for creation of visual and audio information are introduced. Introduction to 3D Graphics and Animation

This subject was previously known as DIG120 Animation and Special Effects Compositing.
This subject develops students’ skills and conceptual approaches in the art of digital compositing. Compositing is the act of blending various visual elements together into a seamless video form. It can be seen in special effects for film, web site banners, TV title sequences, TV commercials, architectural walkthroughs and training simulations. Students will have the opportunity to develop their conceptual approaches and explore the technical possibilities of animation and special effects compositing through hands-on production experimentation.

Animation and Special Effects Compositing

This subject invites students to consider the design, structure, functionality and application of games and gaming. The subject presents various ways to consider game elements including as virtual environments, toys, narrative engines, sets of algorithmic rules, simulations. There is a primary focus on digitally mediated games, especially those that leverage three dimensional modelling and rendering. Projects based on simulated client briefs, real client briefs, or studio placements give students direct experience in working in professional environments. Supplementing the practical component, this subject will introduce such games as they are used to make social statements and to drive social change; for education and training; for rehabilitation and health; for research; and for art&#39;s sake alone. This subject will also examine controversial game content, the effects of game playing, and various ethical concerns.This subject will feature guest speakers who will provide unique personal insights into the workings of the games industry and advice on how to best prepare for employment within it. Completing this subject will provide you with the opportunity to obtain the Unity Certified User: Programmer professional industry certification via completion of a certification exam.
