Students learn how to understand common business contractual terms and implications to develop an appreciation of how contracts are used to allocate risk. Sharpen your understanding of contract law principles. Learn how contracts are formed, negotiated and performed. Explore the circumstances in which a contract can be terminated. Focus particularly on the role of the contract in the business world.

This subject was previously known as BLW22.Studying this subject will introduce you to the Australian Taxation System and get you to critically consider the various aspects of the taxation legislation with a focus on Income Tax, Fringe Benefit Tax, Goods and Services Tax and Capital Gains Tax as well as a detailed investigation into the taxing of various tax entities used in Australia. You will be exposed to considering the global aspect of taxation and how foreign companies and individuals are treated for tax purposes in Australia. Being a tax professional is a privileged position but it comes with both social and ethical responsibilities and in this unit we will identify these as well as taking a detailed looked at the various bodies associated with the administration and review of the Australian Taxation System such as the Australia Taxation Office, Inspector General of Taxation and the Tax Practitioners Board. This subject develops students’ awareness of the impact of global labour markets, changing social trends, and technological innovation on career opportunities and the future of work. Through the application of career theory and design thinking frameworks, students will examine and develop the critical employability skills required to create and sustain meaningful work across a broad range of industry sectors and cultural contexts. The subject demonstrates strategies for effective individual and organisational career management, incorporating theory and concepts on career choice, career change, organisational and entrepreneurial careers, and careers in the ‘gig’ economy. Strategic Career Design

This subject provides some powerful tools for understanding how economies work. It introduces the concepts and methods of experimental and behavioural economics; models of economic growth, business cycles, and financial crises; macroeconomic indicators of economic growth, unemployment, and inflation; and tools to understand and evaluate monetary, fiscal, and other economic policies. Economics affects everything in our lives—what we earn, how we work, where we learn, what we consume, how much we waste; the list goes on. An understanding of economics is critical in an uncertain world, where market forces have such a significant influence on our lives. Any student undertaking a course in commerce or business at the undergraduate level requires an understanding of economics—how people make decisions (rational or otherwise), economic policy, challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic on global economic recovery and decent work progress, sustainable economic growth and productivity, climate change dilemmas and so on. Introductory Economics

This subject develops skills and knowledge that enable students across all disciplines to make informed and responsible decisions using accounting and financial information. The unit explores different forms of business and financing options and how these affect business decisions through the understanding of financial statements. Students will learn about basic accounting and financial terminologies; cash and accrual accounting, capital investment decisions, business financing, time value of money, triple bottom line reporting and business budgeting. Students will also learn how to interpret financial statements and how global events impact on business decisions.

The Internet has fundamentally reshaped the global economy, and with it our experiences as workers and consumers. In this subject, you will come to understand the dynamics of the digital economy, including the importance of platforms, networks, attention, and growth. You will also explore alternative economic models facilitated by the Internet, such as the gift economy. This subject will provide you with a nuanced perspective on how the economy has changed over recent decades, why it matters, and what might happen next.
