Students learn how to understand common business contractual terms and implications to develop an appreciation of how contracts are used to allocate risk. This subject provides some powerful tools for understanding how economies work. It introduces the concepts and methods of experimental and behavioural economics; models of economic growth, business cycles, and financial crises; macroeconomic indicators of economic growth, unemployment, and inflation; and tools to understand and evaluate monetary, fiscal, and other economic policies. Economics affects everything in our lives—what we earn, how we work, where we learn, what we consume, how much we waste; the list goes on. An understanding of economics is critical in an uncertain world, where market forces have such a significant influence on our lives. Any student undertaking a course in commerce or business at the undergraduate level requires an understanding of economics—how people make decisions (rational or otherwise), economic policy, challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic on global economic recovery and decent work progress, sustainable economic growth and productivity, climate change dilemmas and so on. This subject develops skills and knowledge that enable students across all disciplines to make informed and responsible decisions using accounting and financial information. The unit explores different forms of business and financing options and how these affect business decisions through the understanding of financial statements. Students will learn about basic accounting and financial terminologies; cash and accrual accounting, capital investment decisions, business financing, time value of money, triple bottom line reporting and business budgeting. The Internet has fundamentally reshaped the global economy, and with it our experiences as workers and consumers. In this subject, you will come to understand the dynamics of the digital economy, including the importance of platforms, networks, attention, and growth. You will also explore alternative economic models facilitated by the Internet, such as the gift economy. This subject will provide you with a nuanced perspective on how the economy has changed over recent decades, why it matters, and what might happen next.

This subject will develop analytical capabilities, equipping students with knowledge about basic data analysis to derive essential information from numerical, textual and visual datasets. As consumers and producers of data, students will learn about data management and security practices, as well as developing an understanding of legal and ethical issues relating to the collection and use of data. Students will develop their analytic capabilities by understanding and interpreting a range of data types including macroeconomic data, which will be used as a base case study where students will examine how macroeconomic conditions affect business decisions across a variety of disciplines including marketing, management, and finance. Students will have the opportunity to personalise their learning experience as they examine case study data sets relating to a range of business disciplines including economics, marketing, human resources and finance. Analytics for Decision Making

This subject provides students with the opportunity to apply their existing knowledge and skills in order to publish real books, by real authors, for real readers. Depending on the books accepted for publication, where these books are in the publishing process, and the skills and interests of individual students, the subject will vary from semester to semester, as well as from student to student. Nonetheless, every student will be involved in at least two of the following publishing processes: acquisitions, editorial, design, print production, digital production, marketing, and sales. Students will also learn about project management, collaborative problem-solving, financial planning, brand development, social media marketing, and more, as these are all required to operate a real publishing house. The skills developed and practised in this unit are transferrable to a wide variety of industries and workplaces. Publishing Studio

This subject is the second of two Masters project subjects involving supervised independent research in/of a discipline-relevant topic. This subject focuses on the completion and presentation of the research commenced in HUMN600 Masters Research Project 1, and will be taken in the next available study period following that subject. The specific nature of the project, the methods of research and the submission format will be determined in consultation with a discipline supervisor and may include professionally orientated tasks or components.
