This subject is suitable for students with no prior knowledge of Korean language or culture. It introduces students to the main events in the modern history of the Korean peninsula, Korean social and political structures, as well as the fractious relations between the two Koreas. The subject is designed for learners who will require an in-depth understanding of Korea in their future careers, and covers topics such as family structures and values, gender relations, migration and the significance of the corporate sector to Korean society and politics. The subject also covers aspects of North Korean society and relations between the two Koreas. Korean Society and Politics

This subject was previously known as Online Power and Resistance.The Internet has had a massive impact on our political systems, from grassroots activism through to global politics. This subject helps you to understand how and why this has happened, and why it matters. It explores the new challenges and possibilities for governance created by the Internet, as well as attempts to control the Internet by governments and others. Online Power and Resistance

This subject was previously known as Health Promotion Partnerships, Politics and Power.
The new public health demands that individuals not be treated in isolation from the larger social context in which they live, work and play. This subject seeks to extend your understanding of the ways in which we can promote health through the development of healthy public policy and supportive environments. To do this effectively we need to understand the power structures and decision making contexts which shape the health of our society and those that we may need to influence to improve health status. In this subject you will explore systems, policies and political ideologies which impact on health and opportunities to work collaboratively across sectors to reduce health inequities. You will also critically assess corporate influences on health and examine the role of civil society and advocacy in public health. This subject involves both a theoretical and practical understanding of the social determinants of health and contemporary political issues.
