Description
This unit aims to provide you with the introductory theory required to understand the components and operations of computer systems, and wider issues surrounding the use of information technology in modern society. A major component of the unit is the practical application of the knowledge gained from the theoretical content. The material covers a broad range of introductory information technology concepts.

You cannot enrol in this unit if you have successfully completed any of the following unit(s) because they are considered academically equivalent:
- CPT11 — Information Technology 1
This unit assumes basic computer literacy skills.

Learning Outcomes
At the completion of this unit students will be able to:
- apply relevant time management and organisational techniques to online learning
- demonstrate competence in the use of the World Wide Web as a research tool
- demonstrate an understanding of basic computer fundamentals and how they are implemented in modern hardware and software
- demonstrate an understanding of storage techniques for image and audio data
- demonstrate an understanding of the underlying infrastructure behind the internet
- demonstrate an understanding of security threats present on the internet
- apply knowledge to take steps in helping to protect desktop computers from internet threats.
