The Master of Marketing is offered by Monash University. This leading course is offered via multimedia delivery and provides a solid foundation for a career in the marketing profession.
Students enrolled in the Master of Marketing or Pathway Program in Business may study towards different levels of qualification, depending how many units are successfully completed. Students who complete the Pathway Program with a credit average may work towards the Master of Marketing. Students enrolled in the Master of Marketing may exit with the Graduate Diploma in Business after completing all six core units and two electives.
Course Objectives
This course aims to enable students to:
- Understand marketing concepts, corporate objectives, strategies and practical implementation
- Understand concepts in psychology and sociology relevant to consumer behaviour
- Understand the nature and scope of marketing research and methodology
- Develop knowledge and skills to plan, strategise, implement and evaluate marketing programs that target the internal and external constituencies of businesses and organisations
- Understand and appreciate the cross-cultural issues which impact on the marketing activities of organisations operating in an international environment.
Eligibility
The Master of Marketing has three entrance pathways; direct entry or via the Executive Certificate in Business (Not offered in 2013), or the Pathway Program.
Direct entry - Academic + work experience
Applicants require an undergraduate degree in a discipline other than Marketing from a recognised tertiary institution and a minimum of two years relevant full-time business experience.
Applicants must have a Weighted Average Mark (WAM) of 60% or equivalent Grade Point Average (GPA). For further information please contact the Department of Marketing, Monash University.
OR
Alternative entry: Pathway Program - Work experience
Applicants with no academic qualifications but six years relevant full-time business experience are eligible to enter the course. These students should begin with the four unit pathway program. On successful completion with a Credit average, students are eligible to apply for entry to the Master of Marketing.
As of 2013 there will be no further intake into the Executive Certificate in Business through OUA. Instead a four unit pathway program will be available for students to use in place of the Executive Certificate in Business as a pathway to the Master in Marketing program. There will only be one intake into the pathway program in session 1, 2013.
International applications: Required IELTS score of 6.5 with no individual band score less than 6.0.

This course is restricted. Students are required to apply and be approved by Monash University before they can enrol in units through OUA.
Applications for the Pathway Program or Master of Marketing are due by Friday two weeks prior to the close of enrolment.

copies of academic transcripts - required in most cases but check course

- A letter of recommendation from your employer on company letterhead -
recommended for entry using work experience.
- Certified legal documentation - if you have changed your name e.g. a marriage
certificate, deed poll name change certificate.
- Certified legal documentation - if you need to correct an error in your date of
birth e.g. a birth certificate.
- English language test results - if your courses were not predominantly in
English e.g. IELTS
or equivalent test results.
- Official translations of any documents not in English.
A "certified" copy is a copy bearing the recognised mark of a Justice of the Peace,
Commission of Oaths or declarations, Public Notary or a Solicitor.

Special Requirements
Online Induction
Prior to undertaking their first online unit, students are required to complete an online induction program offered by the Department of Marketing in the week before study sessions commence.
The Department will contact all commencing and timely applicants by email prior to the start of each study session. This program will guide you through the procedure of logging on to our learning site, using it to communicate with other students/tutors, and learning how to send and receive assignments electronically. In addition, the process of searching for online resources and the sharing of this information with fellow online students will be introduced. It's all online – there is no need to attend our campus.
Award Requirements
To qualify for the award of Master of Marketing you must successfully complete 6 core units and 6 electives. Students are expected to enrol in two units per Session to complete the award within three years.
Exit Points
Students enrolled in the Master of Marketing may exit with the award of Graduate Certificate in Business after completing the first four core units,
Students enrolled in the Master of Marketing may exit with the award of Graduate Diploma in Business after completing eight units including six core units.
Recognition of Prior Learning / Credit
Applicants should contact the course coordinator for information about RPL and Credit.
Recommended Study Pattern
Master of Marketing students must follow these guidelines:
Core units
- start with the introductory unit X3401 Foundations of Marketing
- complete these four units: X3401; X3402; X3403 and X3408
- then complete unit: X3410
- complete the capstone unit X3407 in the final semester
- students must complete any prerequisites
