Other Cleaner

Other Cleaners refers to members of this unit group that are not elsewhere classified. Cleaners are responsible for cleaning materials, surfaces and objects, using cleaning tools and supplies, along with other custodial duties.

Duties and tasks

  • Arranges rooms for events such as meetings
  • Cleans floors by sweeping, vacuuming or mopping them
  • Dusts walls, machines and equipment
  • Empties trash cans and sprays insecticides to prevent insect and rodent infestation
  • Prepares cleaning solutions to clean surfaces
  • Requisitions supplies and equipment needed for maintenance duties
  • Strips, seals, finishes and polishes floors

Skills required

  • Able to read and follow manuals and directions
  • Experience in the janitorial field
  • Good physical stamina
  • Good time management
  • Self-motivated

Working conditions

Other Cleaners need to be flexible and work whatever shifts are assigned to them. Full-time Cleaners usually work 40 hours a week, while part-time Cleaners tend to work evenings or on the weekends.
