Bakery Assistant

Bakery Assistants provide support to Bakers, Pastrycooks, Chefs and other Food Trade Workers in food preparation, storage and cleaning.

Duties and tasks

  • Assist in the preparation of food ingredients for cooking and serving (including measuring, washing, peeling, slicing etc.)
  • Maintain high standards of hygiene cleanliness in the food preparation areas
  • Perform other duties as required by Food Trade Workers
  • Provide an ongoing supply of clean crockery, cutlery and other cooking utensils
  • Store food appropriately

Skills required

  • Able to Work Well Under Pressure
  • Fit and Able to Perform Physical and Repetitive Tasks
  • Good Hand Eye Coordination and Manual Dexterity
  • Strong Attention to Detail
  • Understanding of Health and Safety Regulations

Working conditions

Bakery Assistants typically work indoors in a variety of settings such as plants, restaurants, grocery stores and bakery shops. They may be required to work in hot and humid conditions, use heavy machinery, stand for long periods of time and complete repetitive physical activities. They may work irregular shift work hours including nights, early mornings and weekends.
