Survey Interviewer

Survey Interviewers conduct surveys or interviews for research purposes in person, via the internet, or over the telephone. Responses are recorded and compiled.

Duties and tasks

  • Collects data using methods such as questionnaires, opinion polls, interviews, etc.
  • Consults with clients to determine survey needs and specific requirements
  • Contacts people to participate in surveys
  • Provides documentation of the surveying process
  • Records answers to surveys
  • Summarises and presents survey results using charts, graphs and fact sheets

Skills required

  • Background in business, marketing and consumer behaviour
  • Experience in conducting interviews or surveys
  • Good people skills
  • Pays attention to details
  • Strong communication skills

Working conditions

Survey Interviewers have structured work schedules and often have the pressure of deadlines, thus overtime might be required. Interviewers might need to travel if research is face-to-face with people. Time is also spent at a computer compiling research results and preparing visuals regarding the outcomes of the results.
