Milliner

Milliners, also known as hat-makers or hatters, are part of a larger industry group of clothing trades workers. Milliners plan, design, and construct hats. They work with individuals to determine suitable styles and to assist in the purchasing of hats.

Duties and tasks

  • Cutting and sewing fabric to construct hats
  • Drawing up designs and sketches
  • Fitting hats to customers and offering advice
  • Pinning, basting, etc to meet pattern specifications
  • Sewing on adornments such as buttons, flowers, and other decorations
  • Working with customers to determine desired style of hat

Working conditions
