Human Resource Manager

Human Resource Managers organise, regulate, manage and coordinate workforces within organisations. They create policies for employees, hiring and training and ensure the proper human resources for organisations so that it can operate at optimal levels.

Duties and tasks

  • Act on behalf of organisations in determining salary, benefits and conditions of employment and negotiating with unions
  • Create and administer periodic performance management systems to evaluate individual and group effectiveness and make efforts to improve overall performance of the organisation
  • Develop and evaluate human resource policies and strategies to fulfill company needs
  • Develop company policies on equal opportunity, anti-discrimination and other employee policies and ensure that relevant governmental employment and occupational laws are adhered
  • Develop occupational health and safety procedures as well as company policies on workers compensation and ensuring compliance with local safety standards
  • Manage employment budget and productivity and facilitate cut-backs and dismissal policies and procedures
  • Manage the hiring process with other Managers for open positions, including recruitment strategies and interviewing techniques to hire the most qualified candidates

Working conditions

Human Resource Managers typically work regular Monday to Friday hours, but may be required to work evenings or weekends to complete required paperwork, reviews and projects. They typically work in indoor office settings with computer and database systems and office supplies.
