Development Manager

Development Managers research, plan and lead activities to further the development of companies and organisations. They typically oversee the work of a team of research and development associates. They should have a superior understanding of organisational needs and long-term plans for expansion or subsistence.

Duties and tasks

  • Analyse needs of the organisation to create research and development strategies and allocate appropriate tasks for staff
  • Implement research projects for the enhancement of particular field and document or publish results for internal or external use
  • Manage a team of researchers and development officers and supervise work output
  • Use research findings to advise on product or service adjustments and policy changes
  • Work with other departmental staff to identify greatest research and development targets and priorities
  • Work within a budget to decide which research and development projects are most worthwhile for the overall benefit to be gained by the organisation

Working conditions
