Middle School Teacher

Middle School Teachers teach students of a middle school or intermediate school age. They may teach one or more subjects, either to one classroom for a full school day or for rotating periods. They are also responsible for the physical safety of their students and for developing students on social, emotional, physical, and intellectual levels.

Duties and tasks

  • Ensuring the physical safety of students left in their care
  • Grading assignments and recording grades
  • Guiding discussion in a classroom setting
  • Presenting age-appropriate and/or mandated curriculum in an interesting and engaging manner
  • Presenting students with individual or group activities to further promote their intellectual development
  • Working with parent groups and outside community organizations to ensure the best possible experience for students
  • Working with students one-on-one to discuss projects and assignments and to answer questions as needed

Working conditions

Middle School Teachers usually work with students who are 11-14 years of age. They may work in public, private, parochial, or alternative schools.
