Wall and Floor Tiler

Wall and Floor Tilers work with materials like ceramic, glass, slate, marble and clay. They cut these materials to form tiles and lay these tiles on walls and floors, both interior and exterior. They may also add decorative touches to their basic work.

Duties and tasks

  • At times, creating decorative enhancements such as tile mosaics
  • Cutting tiles to fit measurements
  • Ensuring tiles are cleanly and neatly laid out and making adjustments as needed
  • Making measurements for tiling
  • Preparing and examining plans to ensure a smooth and well-executed job
  • Spreading grout onto surfaces as needed
  • Working with concrete and other adhesives to affix tiles to surfaces

Working conditions

Wall and Floor Tilers generally do not have an established base of operations. They complete jobs in private homes and businesses, and so their workplaces vary based on the amount of time needed per individual job.
