Concreter's provide a very important service to homeowners, businesses and communities in general. They handle concrete from the beginning of the project all the way through to its completion. Concreter's create sidewalks, foundations, floors, bridges, parking lots and even vertical walls for buildings. There is no end to the possible projects that concreter's are needed to work on.

  • Create concrete forms
  • Create expansion joints
  • Create specific finishes on vertical and horizontal surfaces
  • Install door sills, anchor bolts and other fixtures
  • Install steel reinforced rebar
  • Level concrete
  • Operate trowels
  • Pour and spread concrete
  • Protect the concrete until it has cured
  • Use colouring powder for specific finishes
  • Use tools such as power cutters and trowelling machines

Skills required

  • Ability to read blueprints and plans
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to take on delegated tasks

Working conditions

Concrete'rs must be able to work in all kinds of weather conditions such as extreme heat and humidity. For the most part, concrete cant be poured when it is very cold, raining or snowing as the concrete would be damaged, crack and not be cured. It is hard work, but rewarding once the project has been completed.
