Carpenter and Joiner

Carpenters and Joiners provide construction services to build structures with a variety of materials such as wood, metal, concrete blocks and other substances. They also perform both major and minor renovation services to residential and commercial properties. Many also perform small aspects of architectural drawing for clients in need of building additions. Carpenters and Joiners can perform needed repairs to existing structures.

Duties and tasks

  • Construct forms for concrete
  • Construct framework
  • Create and provide clients with accurate estimates for project
  • Cut and create wood joints
  • Cut materials to proper sizes
  • Develop layout for project
  • Ensure all framework and flooring is true
  • Erect roof
  • Install all fascia
  • Install door and window frames
  • Install floors and sub-floors
  • Install wallboard and siding
  • Join material together with nails or screws
  • Order correct materials for project
  • Shingle roofs

Working conditions

Carpenters and Joiners work in all weather conditions including extreme heat and bitter cold. The job can be stressful as time constraints must be met and delays can mean the loss of money. Clients may also become upset or angry if there are delays which can lead to added tension.
