Social Professional

Social Professionals are historical research professionals whose work primarily focuses on the study of human behavior as well as social institutions and society as a whole. Additional responsibilities include translating text from one language to another.

Duties and tasks

  • Accurate translation of source texts in an effort to maintain original meaning
  • Authenticating historical data for inclusion in studies
  • Collect historical data from a variety of sources including archives, newspaper archives, historical indexes, court records and more
  • Performing historical research of a culturally focused nature
  • Taking historical data and interpreting it
  • Transcribing verbal recordings from one language to another while keeping the essence of meaning
  • Working with original or source texts

Skills required

  • Ability to write effectively to appropriate audiences
  • Accurately conveying details to other individuals
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Thinking critically and using logic in order to find solutions to issues that arise
  • Viewing text and comprehending sentences and paragraphs

Working conditions

Like most researchers, Social Professionals generally work in office or academic settings. Their workdays are spent researching and evaluating historical documents of a wide range and may involve spending a good deal of time searching through large numbers of documents.
