Value chain management (VCM) is an important strategy to improve the performance of agribusinesses. VCM integrates value chain components and resources including performance management and monitoring processes. Understanding value chains enables insight into the supply chain and supports identifying efficient strategy development and value in the most cost effective way; the primary means of achieving and sustaining value lies in optimising the net value of products to end users at the lowest possible production cost and also optimising added value for each participant in the chain.
This subject introduces the concept of value chains and how they are managed in practice. Through the use of case studies, you will investigate stakeholders, structure and valuecreating elements and demonstrate how a focus on value can benefit all the businesses in a producer-to-consumer chain. It also explores the enablers of, and barriers to, successful value chain management.
A range of activities will be used to investigate VCM, including case studies, developing and illustrating infographics, and oral presentations explaining how discipline knowledge is applied to practice.
