About this subject
Upon completion of this subject , the student should be able to:
- Apply systems thinking to describe the multiple dimensions and actors of a sustainability challenge
- Critically evaluate diverse interventions to a sustainability challenge from evidence, values, and practicality frameworks
- Collaboratively design a sustainability intervention to create change in a specific social setting
- Communicate effectively and ethically about varied sustainability solutions for diverse audiences
- Topics to be confirmed prior to subjects commencement.
Sustainability is one of the most complex and important challenges facing humanity today. In this final capstone subject, students will use their learnings from throughout the major and apply them to complex sustainability problems to identify relevant stakeholders and negotiate potential interventions. Students will learn about tools of change, reflect on the value systems held by themselves and others, and work together to identify and design practical interventions to sustainability challenges. The teachings will draw on Tasmanian case studies developed through the Sustainability Integration Program for Students (SIPS) and will integrate Indigenous perspectives and case studies. The team-based problem solving, life-wide learning and active citizenry practiced in this subject will help the students develop into sustainability agents of change and strengthen their ability to contribute to practical interventions in diverse settings. Students will have the opportunity to review and provide feedback on local sustainability interventions and to consider how these projects work to address the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Single subjects are the individual components that make up a degree. With Open Universities Australia, you’re able to study many of them as stand-alone subjects, including postgraduate single subjects, without having to commit to a degree.
Each of your subjects will be held over the course of a study term, and they’ll usually require 10 to 12 hours of study each week. Subjects are identified by a title and a code, for example, Developmental Psychology, PSY20007.
First, find the degree that you would like to study on our website.
If that degree allows entry via undergraduate subjects, there will be information about this under the Entry Requirements section. You will find a list of 2-4 open enrolment subjects you need to successfully complete to qualify for admission into that qualification.
Once you pass those subjects, you will satisfy the academic requirements for the degree, and you can apply for entry.
