About this subject
Upon completion of this subject, the student should be able to:
- Recall and explain introductory principles and theories of chemistry
- Identify and explain the properties and interactions of substances
- Solve technical and theoretical chemistry problems
- Introduction and conservation of mass, atoms, ionic and metallic bonding
- Covalent bonding
- Solubility
- Reactions and Change of state
- Acids, bases and pH
- Lab techniques
- Rates, Equilibrium and Buffers
- Overview of biological molecules
- Base organic molecules
In this subject, you will gain an insight into the world of chemistry via industry processes. You will work through collaborative and individual activities covering a range of topics such as the chemical basics of matter, introductory chemical analysis, states of matter, acid-base chemistry and organic chemistry. You will apply your fundamental chemistry knowledge while learning essential laboratory skills in a workshop setting. The theories and skills acquired throughout the term will enable you to design solutions in an industry context, and to reflect on your approach and reasoning
