About this subject
Upon completion of this subject, the student should be able to:
- Apply accounting principles to identify, record and report financial information.
- Use financial accounting information to make informed financial decisions.
- Apply internal control procedures to an organisation's financial accounts.
- Communicate accounting information in presentations and written reports, individually and in team environments, using professional language and standards common to business professionals and peers.

This subject is a compulsory subject in the accounting major and is an important pre- requisite for second and third-year subjects.
In this subject you will consider the fundamental principles that underpin accounting, the role that accounting plays in decision making and important technical skills required by our professional accounting bodies.
After completing this subject, you will have knowledge of the fundamental principles of accounting, be able to use financial accounting information to make informed decisions and have a foundational understanding of accounting software.
