About this subject
At the completion of this subject students will be able to:
- demonstrate a broad awareness and understanding of engineering design in diverse contexts
- work constructively and effectively as part of a diverse team, in varied roles, whether as a member or a leader
- work as a team to apply basic project management principles, testing and evaluation processes as part of an engineering design process to solve practical engineering problems
- demonstrate safe working practices and understanding of the importance of OHS&W
- use innovation and creativity tools to develop an engineering solution and understand the role of ethics and entrepreneurship in the business of engineering
- demonstrate developing oral and written communication skills through; design report, design presentation & demonstration and professional reflection.

This subject will introduce you to varied areas in design and innovation, including: engineering problem solving, basic systems engineering concepts, the engineering design process, identifying requirements, design concepts, creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship, developing solutions, test and evaluation processes, project management principles and basic tools. We will also use learning journals and tutorial activities to expand your professional writing and teamwork skills, as these are essential to effective communication for professional engineers working in diverse domestic and international contexts. We will use international examples of engineering failures to explore how projects fail and how mistakes can be avoided or minimised.
