Engineering and Environmental Geology

About this subject

  • At the completion of this subject students will be able to:

    1. recognise the significance of rock and mineral properties on engineering and environmental problems
    2. outline the structure and composition of the Earth, and the relationship of plate tectonics to Earth processes
    3. describe a range of techniquies that can be used to investigate geological features
    4. contribute to informed discussion about the impact of geological phenomena on environmental issues
    5. identify engineering activities that have environmental impacts, and propose effective solutions to environmental problems
    6. record information about geological field relationships and use it to construct and interpret simple geological maps.

  • Attendance requirements - This subject has a 3 day on-campus attendance requirement. The on-campus schedule for Study Period 1 2018 is 9am Monday 9 April 2018 to 4pm Wednesday 11 April 2018.
  • Equipment requirements - Audio headset with microphone are required to access weekly consultation and help desk facilities.
