About this subject

  • On completion of this course students should be able to achieve the following learning outcomes:

    1. Identify the distinguishing characteristics of social research in terms of its purpose, underlying  assumptions and available methodologies. 
    2. Describe the principal paradigms employed in social research and differentiate between them in terms of their epistemological bases, and their respective strengths and limitations in addressing different types of research questions. 
    3. Critically review and interpret examples of research studies or reports of research findings in the literature relevant to one’s own professional field.
    4. Plan a project, making informed choices on the scope, methods, and strategies of analysis to be used. 
    5. Identify the important ethical issues when conducting social research.
