At the completion of this course you should be able to.
- explore theories and models of clinical reasoning in health professional contexts.
- evaluate approaches and strategies to facilitate the development of clinical reasoning.
- Plan and implement clinical reasoning strategies to facilitate the development of clinical reasoning skills with learners.
- Describe opportunities for innovation with the clinical care context.
- Theories and models of clinical reasoning; skills of clinical decision making, leadership approaches to clinical innovation, drivers of innovation in health care.
Healthcare professionals regularly make clinical decisions in complex and challenging situations. Teaching future generations of healthcare professions about how these decisions are made is even more challenging. This course will explore theories and models of clinical reasoning and will attempt to give shape and form to the often subconscious mental processes that constitute the skill of clinical decision making. With this more systematic understanding of clinical reasoning, healthcare professionals will be in better place to facilitate its development in others.
