What you'll learn

At the completion of this course, students should be able to:

  1. Identify basic textual and theological issues in relation to the study of the Old Testament.
  2. Articulate an elementary understanding of key historical, cultural, and theological issues in the Old Testament.
  3. Demonstrate introductory ability to identify interpretive issues in relation to the study of the Old Testament.
  4. Apply a beginning capacity for analysing a range of Old Testament texts.

Description

This course provides an introduction to the literature of the Old Testament. The Old Testament is a diverse literature and this course provides an overview to the content and themes in the Old Testament in its historical and cultural setting of the ancient Near East. Students will be introduced to methods and issues in the modern study of the Old Testament and to available extra-biblical resources.
