Teaching Primary Science and Technology

About this subject

  • Upon completion of this subject, students will be able to:

    1. demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the concepts, substance and structure of the content and teaching strategies of primary Science and Technology (GTSD 2.1.1);
    2. organise content into an effective learning and teaching sequence using appropriate pedagogical and assessment strategies for primary Science and Technology (GTSD 2.2.1, 3.3.1, 5.1.1);
    3. analyse the contents of the K-6 Science and Technology Syllabus for New South Wales to develop safe, engaging learning experiences for children (GTSD 2.1.1, 4.4.1);
    4. integrate the K-6 Science and Technology syllabus with literacy and numeracy and other learning areas and demonstrate a range of strategies for teaching using an integrated approach (GTSD 2.5.1, 3.3.1);
    5. demonstrate knowledge of a range of resources, including ICT, that engage students in their learning and analyse the role that investigating, designing and making, and digital technologies play in the process of learning and the importance of communication through language and other expressive means (GTSD 3.4.1); and
    6. demonstrate knowledge and understanding of differentiated strategies for teaching for a diverse classroom (cater for students' gender, ethnographic background, special needs, English as an additional language backgrounds, challenging behaviours and specific individual backgrounds) (GTSD 1.5.1).
