Surviving and Thriving: How to Live Well in the Modern World
About this subject
Upon completion of this subject, students will be able to:
- describe a broad range of views about what constitutes a well-lived life;
- understand how principles and techniques from positive psychology (and related areas) can help people live happier, more productive and fulfilling lives;
- apply these principles and techniques to your own life and see what happens.
- Topics will be available to enrolled students in the subjects Learning Management System site approximately one week prior to the commencement of the teaching period.
What is a well-lived life? How do we achieve it in the modern world? The great thinkers of history have much to say on the matter; we'll learn from them and also see that many of their ideas have been incorporated into contemporary psychology.
As a student you will:
- systematically evaluate your life;
- identify your passions and forge an empowering life purpose;
- learn to manage negative emotions and overcome challenges; and
- plan and execute strategies to achieve your life goals.
Assessment will comprise a 'life portfolio' assembled in a series of practical exercises throughout the course and a final exam.
