About this subject

  • Upon completion of this subject, students will be able to:

    1. work with other programmers and other teams of programmers on large software projects;
    2. apply collaborative software development practices and tool chains;
    3. design and develop features for a software system, from conception through to testing, deployment, and continuous improvement;
    4. design, model, and investigate user interaction and user experience with software;
    5. apply techniques for verifying the quality of software during development and explain the ethical considerations around software failure risks and their impact; and
    6. investigate, analyse, understand, and modify the design of program code, including code written by others.

If you study the prerequisite subject(s) in the study period immediately prior to studying this subject, your result for the prerequisite subject(s) will not be finalised prior to the close of enrolment. In this situation, should you not complete your prerequisite subject(s) successfully you should not continue with your enrolment in this subject. If you are currently enrolled in the prerequisite subject(s) and believe you may not complete these all successfully, it is your responsibility to reschedule your study of this subject to give you time to re-attempt the prerequisite subject(s).

To enrol in this subject you will need to pass UNE-COSC120 subject. Please note as UNE results are released after the close of enrolment date, your enrolment into this subject will be withdrawn if you do not receive a satisfactory result for UNE-COSC120.

UNE-COSC220 requires a knowledge of, and programming experience with, a high level programming language. Experience with the use of the Linux/UNIX operating system is highly recommended.
