This subject introduces approaches for studying a variety of media forms in their cultural and social contexts. As diverse media forms converge in the digital environment, content in film, television, video, online and mobile communication is produced and distributed in new ways. Taking examples from everyday life, the subject introduces key concepts for studying media and culture and examines issues relating to media convergence and globalisation. Case studies and examples may include changes in film and television genres, news and journalism, reality television, celebrity culture, and ideas of cultural and personal identity.
