German Social Movements in the European Context
About this subject
Upon completion of this subject, students will be able to:
- analyse German social movements and interpret them in the European and global context;
- apply theoretical concepts related to the study of social movements; and
- analyse cultural artefacts in written and other media.
- Topics will be available to enrolled students in the subjects Learning Management System site approximately one week prior to the commencement of the teaching period.
This subject offers an introduction to some key social movements in the contemporary German-speaking world. Students study the origins and evolution of important post-WWII social movements. Students navigate primary and secondary sources (visual and written). Students will arrive at a greater understanding of the important position Germany now occupies in the political, economic, environmental and social spheres, and the role Germany plays as a global citizen.
Essay 1: 1500 words.
Essay 2: 2000 words.
Quizzes: 500 word (equivalent). Two Quizzes.
All assessments relate to Learning Outcomes 1-3- Essay 1 (35%)

Single subjects are the individual components that make up a degree. With Open Universities Australia, you’re able to study many of them as stand-alone subjects, including postgraduate single subjects, without having to commit to a degree.
Each of your subjects will be held over the course of a study term, and they’ll usually require 10 to 12 hours of study each week. Subjects are identified by a title and a code, for example, Developmental Psychology, PSY20007.
First, find the degree that you would like to study on our website.
If that degree allows entry via undergraduate subjects, there will be information about this under the Entry Requirements section. You will find a list of 2-4 open enrolment subjects you need to successfully complete to qualify for admission into that qualification.
Once you pass those subjects, you will satisfy the academic requirements for the degree, and you can apply for entry.
