About this subject
Upon completion of this subject, students will be able to:
- demonstrate increasing autonomy in listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in French;
- utilise intermediate structures and functions of the French language, in particular grammatical structures;
- communicate with increasing autonomy in French at an intermediate level with some depth on selected topics;
- apply extended knowledge of French cultural norms and society;
- use developed cognitive skills to analyse and synthesise information when communicating at an intermediate level; and
- translate several paragraphs to and from French at intermediate level.
- Topics will be available to enrolled students in the subjects Learning Management System site approximately one week prior to the commencement of the teaching period.
Building upon FREN201, FREN202 will further enhance your confidence in your French speaking skills. In this subject, you will develop your conversational skills on a number of topics about French and Francophone culture. You will progress to a point where your French communication skills will equip you for advanced level study of the language and its film and literature. Pursue your goal of becoming a confident communicator in a second language and future proof your career in a global economy where over 275 million people speak French.
Assessment 1 Written language exercises: 750 words (equivalent). Relates to Learning Outcomes 1-3
Assessment 2 Comprehension and speaking assessment: 1250 words (equivalent). Relates to Learning Outcomes 1-5
Assessment 3 Oral interview (online): 1250 words (equivalent). Relates to Learning Outcomes 1-5
Assessment 4 Take Home Exam: 2000 words. Relates to Learning Outcomes 1-6- Written language exercises. (10%)
- Comprehension and speaking assessment. (20%)
- Oral interview. This will take place via an online platform. (20%)
- Take Home Exam - 2 hrs 30 mins (50%)

- Attendance requirements - There is a non-mandatory 2 day intensive school for this subject which students may choose to attend. This intensive school will be held at UNE in Armidale, NSW if sufficient students commit by the date specified by the unit coordinator. Dates for this intensive school to be advised.
- Equipment requirements - Headphones or speakers (required to listen to lectures and other media) Headset, including microphone (highly recommended) Webcam (may be required for participation in virtual classrooms and/or media presentations).
- Software requirements - It is essential for students to have reliable internet access in order to participate in and complete your units, regardless of whether they contain an on campus attendance or intensive school component.
