Financial Statement Analysis
About this subject
Upon completion of this subject, students will be able to:
- demonstrate an advanced and integrated understanding of accounting and finance theories and practices to complete the in-depth analysis of companies' financial reports;
- demonstrate an expert understanding of the processes involved in assessing corporate strategy;
- conduct a rigorous analysis of an ASX-listed company as a prospective investment through assessment of its financial and other relevant information in the global and domestic macroeconomic context;
- use a range of cognitive, communication and research skills to investigate, analyse, synthesise and reflect critically on relevant theories, concepts, methodologies, and professional decisions; and
- work independently and/or collaboratively to plan and execute tasks to enhance professional knowledge and skills.
- Topics will be available to enrolled students in the subjects Learning Management System site approximately one week prior to the commencement of the teaching period.
This subject provides students with a working knowledge of financial statement analysis carried out by fund managers, stock brokers and debt market analysts. Topics include evaluating strategy, ratio analysis, credit analysis, mergers and acquisitions. Topics in this unit prepare students to identify which companies should, and should not, be included in a portfolio.

Final Examination: 60%; LOs 1-5. Students must obtain at least 50% in the examination (and at least 50% overall) to receive a pass (or better) in the unit.
