Creative Arts Key Learning Areas
About this subject
Upon completion of this subject, students will be able to:
- demonstrate knowledge and practical understanding of content relevant to the NSW Creative Arts K-6 Syllabus (GTSD 2.1.1);
- apply knowledge and skills to create an effective learning environment, and use a range of teaching strategies and resources appropriate to K-6 Creative Arts (GTSD 3.2.1);
- demonstrate a practical understanding of the processes involved in effective curriculum development in relation to planning, programming, assessment, reporting, and evaluation, relevant to implementation of Creative Arts (GTSD 2.3.1); and
- demonstrate an understanding of the place of the Creative Arts within the school and the wider community, and the contribution the Creative Arts make to students’ personal, social and intellectual development (GTSD 1.1.1).
- Topics will be available to enrolled students in the subjects Learning Management System site approximately one week prior to the commencement of the teaching period.
This subject is concerned with the fundamentals of curriculum theory and effective primary school classroom practices in the area of Creative Arts, including dance, music, visual arts, and drama. The subject will develop students' theoretical and practical skills across the Creative Arts disciplines and explore the role and value of the arts within the broader school curriculum. An emphasis will be placed on practical and pedagogical skills in relation to planning, programming and assessing in the areas of music, dance, drama, and visual arts.
