Chinese Calligraphy
About this subject
Upon completion of this subject, students will be able to:
- demonstrate a depth of understanding of a major Chinese art form;
- demonstrate a depth of understanding of the structure of Chinese writing; and
- apply knowledge and technical skills of the basic brush work and styles of Chinese calligraphy.
- Topics will be available to enrolled students in the subjects Learning Management System site approximately one week prior to the commencement of the teaching period.
This subject is open both to students learning Chinese, and to those of Chinese heritage, and also to those who have limited knowledge of the language but are attracted to Chinese calligraphy. Lectures cover materials, basic brush skills, styles, and the history of Chinese calligraphy. There are two non-mandatory two-day schools for online students, and the subject culminates in an exhibition of student work.

- Attendance requirements - There is are two non-mandatory two-day intensive school for this subject which students may choose to attend. The first: A weekend school for students which is held in Sydney. This weekend school is held before the beginning of the teaching period. The second: A weekend school for students which is held in Sydney. Dates for this intensive school to be advised.
- Equipment requirements - Headphones or speakers (required to listen to lectures and other media) Headset, including microphone (highly recommended) Webcam (may be required for participation in virtual classrooms and/or media presentations).
- Software requirements - It is essential for students to have reliable internet access in order to participate in and complete your units, regardless of whether they contain an on campus attendance or intensive school component.
