About this subject
Students who successfully complete this subject will be able to:
- Critically analyse the value creation role of organisations and their changing relationships with stakeholders, with regard to holistic risk assessment and management, both individually and in groups
- Critically analyse the different decision making and management approaches to risk adopted by different functions of the organisation
- Critically evaluate business performance and measurement in the context of the challenges posed by a rapidly changing business environment and stakeholder pressures
- Demonstrate and apply an understanding of emergent knowledge creation processes relevant to business analysis and risk mitigation.
- Conceptualising business from a risk perspective
- The changing role of business: value creation for shareholders, customers and other stakeholders
- Business models and strategy as risk management tools

The subject introduces students to the contemporary global business environment and the changing role for business in creating value for a wide range of stakeholders. It critiques different approaches to effective and sustainable business management as reflected in decision-making, risk assessment and management, stakeholder management, resource utilisation (including financial, environmental and people resources), quality and performance analysis and approaches to accountability.
The subject explores the challenges and opportunities for leadership and management of business in the contemporary business environment, helping develop attributes that support a capacity for proactive and positive responsiveness to change challenges.
