On successful completion of this subject you will be able to:
- Select and recommend the most appropriate financial and investment strategies for individual clients.
- Critically analyse the role of insurance in personal financial management and risk protection.
- Calculate taxation liability and social security entitlements for a range of clients.
- Evaluate asset management structures best suited for estate and succession planning for an individual.
- Explain the nature and purpose of pension schemes and retirement incomes policy to clients.
- Develop basic financial plans for clients with diverse needs.

Personal Wealth Management introduces you to the workings of the financial planning and wealth management industry. It provides a framework that enables the analysis of problems and the development of action plans designed to assist people to achieve their financial goals and improve their "financial health". Increasing interest in the area of financial planning and the growth in demand for financial advisory services over the past decade has led to a rapidly expanding industry.
The area of personal financial planning and wealth management encompasses many disciplines. These include investments, retirement and cash-flow planning, pension schemes, insurance, taxation, legal structures, borrowing money to invest, financial analysis and risk assessment, amongst many other areas. This subject introduces you to the process of personal wealth management that brings all of these areas together in a way to meet an individual’s requirements.

Single subject FAQs
Single subjects are the individual components that make up a degree. With Open Universities Australia, you’re able to study many of them as stand-alone subjects, including postgraduate single subjects, without having to commit to a degree.
Each of your subjects will be held over the course of a study term, and they’ll usually require 10 to 12 hours of study each week. Subjects are identified by a title and a code, for example, Developmental Psychology, PSY20007.
First, find the degree that you would like to study on our website.
If that degree allows entry via undergraduate subjects, there will be information about this under the Entry Requirements section. You will find a list of 2-4 open enrolment subjects you need to successfully complete to qualify for admission into that qualification.
Once you pass those subjects, you will satisfy the academic requirements for the degree, and you can apply for entry.
