About this subject
On successful completion of this subject you will be able to:
- Demonstrate an advanced and integrated understanding of the legal issues under an area of the law chosen by the student in consultation with the lecturer.
- Critically evaluate the law relating to the area chosen.
- Demonstrate the intellectual and practical skills needed to justify and interpret theoretical propositions, legal methodologies, conclusions and professional decisions and identify, research, evaluate and synthesise relevant factual, legal and policy issues.
- Design and plan a project, including development and testing of research questions, and obtaining and assimilating scholarly material from a range of sources to produce a substantial contribution to research.

The Legal Research Project will require you to research and write a substantial research paper on a topic approved by the subject co-ordinator. The subject gives you the opportunity to engage with a substantive area of law and plan, research and write a paper that is relevant to current legal issues. The subject will require you to undertake research of a postgraduate standard and further develop your skills in legal methodology.
The assessment tasks, their weighting and the course learning outcomes to which they are aligned are as follows.
Feedback will be provided throughout the semester in class and/or in online forums through individual and group feedback on practical exercises and by individual consultation.- Assessment Task 1, Linked CLO1 (10%)

- Assessment Task 3(a) Presentation, Linked CLOs 1,2,3,4 (15%)
- Assessment Task 3(b) Research Paper - Linked CLOs 1,2,3,4 (65%)
