About this subject
Upon the completion of this subject, students will be able to:
- Demonstrate an advanced and integrated understanding of the legal issues relating to the management and regulation of new and emergent technology in Australia and internationally.
- Critically evaluate the application of new and emergent technology to legal practice and the implications for the legal profession.
- Analyse and research complex legal problems relating to new and emergent technology and make reasoned and appropriate solutions among alternatives.
- Demonstrate sophisticated cognitive and creative skills in approaching legal issues to create practical solutions for legal or non-legal clients.

This subject provides you with the opportunity to engage in an in-depth study of the legal and regulatory issues associated with new and emerging technology and innovation. The coursework will focus on current issues in law and technology, examining the way that law and legal practice has adapted, or is likely to adapt, to new developments in technology, digital disruption, new business models, and new forms of governance. This subject will also consider the regulatory response in the face of innovation. This subject's content draws on Australian and international comparative materials where appropriate. The specific topics covered may vary from year to year, ensuring that the subject is at the cutting edge of technological developments and the implications for the law and legal practice.
