About this subject
On completion of the subject, students will be able to:
- identify the way in which Australian workplace relations laws are shaped by the constitutional powers of the Commonwealth
- apply the creation, incidents and termination of the individual employment contract
- apply statutory employment standards
- apply the different means of setting and maintaining minimum working conditions, including the operation and enforcement of awards and agreements
- critique the policy behind and operation of laws concerning industrial action
- critique the development of Australian labour law in an international context.

This subject examines the individual employment relationship and collective labour relations. Topics will include the development of Australian labour law and the constitutional framework; international influences on the development of labour law; the National Employment Standards; modern awards; enterprise agreements; the regulation of trade unions and the regulation of industrial action and industrial disputes.
