About this subject

  • At the completion of this subject students will:

    1. apply concepts and theoretical ideas to the study of organisations that draw on notions of ‘community’
    2. compare, contrast and review organisational practice with literature on sociology and community development.
    3. observe in depth the processes and practices of one organisation that draws on notions of ‘community’
    4. contribute to an organisation’s activities by negotiating to carry out a series of practical tasks in an organisational setting
    5. extend their knowledge of organisations involved in community development initiatives
    6. enhance their communication skills, including encouraging clear, concise and articulate presentation appropriate for different purposes
    7. enhance their ability to combine learning with practice by participating in some organisational activities during the placement
    8. enhance their ability to work within a collaborative team setting
    9. enhance their observation skills by setting learning tasks that require the use of critical and analytical skills
